Concept of Operations
The Mashavu experience begins when the patient approaches the kiosk. The patient pays the kiosk operator 100 shillings ($1.25). The kiosk operator then logs onto the Mashavu server and creates an account for a new patient or updates a returning patient’s profile.

The profile includes questions on contact information, social history, and medical history. All of this information ensures that the doctor receives adequate background information on the patient before viewing his or her vitals.

After ensuring that the background information is complete, the kiosk operator takes the patient’s vitals in the following order: blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, heart/lung sounds, blood oxygen saturation, flow rate/lung volume.

The patient receives a paper with the collected measurement numbers and the kiosk operator submits the information to the Mashavu website. Within 4 hours, a local doctor logs onto the Mashavu website and views the patient’s profile. Once the doctor submits his or her feedback on the website, the kiosk operator is immediately notified. The kiosk operator relays the feedback to the patient.
