2009 Design Iteration
The students in the team worked on developing the website that Mashavu used while in Kenya. The two students were both part of the Mashavu core team.
The team worked on the development of the Mashavu website. He was mainly responsible for the application utilized by the doctors working with Mashavu to analyze cases. They also worked with the Bio Engingeering team designing, in addition to creating one design for the stethoscope.
The team created an adult weighing scale and a pulse rate monitor that were integrated into the Mashavu system and tested in Kenya that summer.
Greg and Alice created the adult weighing scale used during the Mashavu team’s work conducted in the summer in Kenya. Alice has since join the Mashavu core team, while Greg has ventured to other endeavors.
The Bio Engineering team focused on the designs measuring vital signs that would fit in the culture of Africa. The students worked on both a respiration device and a blood pressure measurement device.
The two Bio Engineering students worked on the stethoscope and pulse rate devices that were created during the Spring semester of 2009 and used in Kenya that summer.
The two students worked on creating socially appropriate technology with contextual information incorporated that would provide value to all of Mashavu’s stakeholders.
The Mashavu fun and education team worked on creating an optimal user experience while promoting health awareness. The team developed educational materials that were used while in Kenya.
The clinical and policy team prepared Mashavu’s Code of Ethics document that was published after the summer travel. The team also worked on making sure that the Mashavu system was user friendly and appropriate for the environment of Kenya.
